Lowcountry Couple | Jennifer & Jeramie
I could not be more excited to share today's Lowcountry Couple with you! Jennifer has become a dear friend and I have a feeling you're going to instantly fall in love with her and her sweet husband after reading this fun interview. To make it even better, Kylie from Kylie Noelle Photography captured this adorable duo off the banks of Hilton Head Island and the end result is absolutely impeccable!
The couple: Jennifer + Jeramie Beck
How many years have you been married? Three years!
Where do you live? Bluffton, SC
Do you have kids? Human kids!? No but we have a golden retriever named Chance who might as well be one!
Tell us a little about yourselves.
Jennifer: I am a 26 year old wedding and portrait photography (JB Marie Photography) who proudly serves the southern states of South Carolina + Georgia but who is game to travel anywhere to do this crazy thing I call a job! Besides from photography, you can find me running around town a couple of times a week, obsessing over puppy snuggles and oversized t-shirts, cuddled up on the couch watching a good movie, probably on vacation at Disney World, and currently trying to learn how to sail!
Jeramie: I am a 26 year old former Atlanta police officer who decided on a whim (with his wife of course) to leave his mundane life and jet off to the coast of South Carolina to begin a new life of adventure. After a couple of months of living here on Hilton Head Island, I decided to pursue photography and videography with my wife with the hopes of becoming a full-time husband + wife photography and videography team by 2017! I am also a huge foodie, lover of outdoor activities like kayaking and hiking, and forever thankful that I get to take my dog for a walk on the beach every morning.
Tell us your love story! We are your classic tale of high school sweethearts! We met when we were just 17 years old and have been together ever since! We went to different colleges our freshmen year but then both transferred out to GCSU (Georgia College & State University) where we were then able to go through the crazy ride that is college together! Jeramie proposed to me in Savannah during the Fall Semester of our senior year and we were married 18 months later on the most beautiful day in April. Add in a puppy 6 months after we got married, a couple of new jobs, starting a business, and moving to Bluffton from Atlanta and you pretty much have our story caught up to speed!
How did you prepare for marriage? We like to think that we did what any normal couples does: we went to marriage counseling a couple of times before the big day. However, we also ended up buying a house and living together before we got married and to be honest, that was the best prep there ever was. We learned how to live together before hand, how to manage money, pay bills, learn what property taxes were, and all that stuff that no one ever bothers to teach you. We learned to work as a team and that my friends, is actually what marriage is.
Describe your wedding day in one sentence. The most amazingly perfect day that we wish we could re-live over and over again!
What is your favorite thing about being married? Getting to go through life with your best friend!
What are your favorite pieces from your registry? Hands down our bedding! Who doesn't love new sheets, pillows, and being upgraded to a king sized mattress so that you can more easily get your puppy to snuggle with you.
How do you celebrate your love? By taking time out of our days and year to celebrate us! We love to celebrate our love through simple gestures like little surprising one another with little gifts from time to time and then by also taking a yearly vacation where it is just the two of us so that we can enjoy our time together without the stress of everyday life.
How do you make your house a home? Its funny that you ask this question, because we have honestly been thinking about this phrase/question a lot lately. We have lived that “dream” of owning your average American home with all the cookie cutter aspects included and at the time, we would have told you that a “big house with a completed interior” made a house a home. But over the last year, we have dug deeper and have found that to us, things/possession don't make a house a home. But instead have found that experiences, love, and memories are the things that can answer this question.
Tell us how you balance career and marriage. To be honest, we are still figuring this out! But what we have learned so far is that making time for each other is key. There are some days that we have to physically and mentally tell ourselves to put down the laptops, turn off social media, and go out to get a burger and a beer together and talk about things other than our business.
Tell us how you’ve overcome challenges in your marriage. We have gone through a lot of ups and downs these last three years. We have gone through job loses, unemployment, working completely different schedules, seeing each other for only 24 hours a week, moving, and so much more.
Tell us one way you love on and serve your spouse.
Jennifer: By making sure every decision that I make has him in mind. Whether that is through thinking about what he should need from the grocery store should I be out running errands to asking him how he feels about me working a specific job. I want to make sure that his opinions, feelings, and thoughts are taken into consideration before a hard core decision is made, especially a decision that could affect the both of us.
Jeramie: By showing support and encouragement through every aspect, goal, and aspiration that life throws her way.
