You Ultimate Guide to Savannah Squares

Whether you're planning a large wedding or quaint elopement, Savannah's charming squares are the perfect backdrop to your wedding. From magnificent fountains to ethereal landscapes, you're guaranteed to find a square that suits you! 

Like all outdoor locations in the historic district security, permits are required for square rentals. If you're planning a private event in a Savannah square, complete and submit this application to the City. Calhoun Square

Located on Abercorn Street between Taylor Street and Gordon Street.

Calhoun Square is large, quiet and boasts beautiful, old oaks, a checker board of grass and gardens and elegant eighteenth century homes around it's exterior. Good parking is nearby making it a beautiful location for your Savannah wedding.

Chatham Square 

Located on Barnard Street between Taylor Street and Gordon Street.

When we think of a classic Savannah wedding, we think of portraits under majestic oak trees and Spanish moss glistening in the sun. Chatham Square has the potential for just that. Host to countless Savannah weddings, this quaint square is divided into nine sections, five of which are all plants or trees, and surrounded by charming architecture. Quite when school is out of session, and easy parking for guests and vendors, Chatham Square is the perfect destination to say "I do".

Chippewa Square  

Located on Bull Street between Perry Street and Hull Street.

Chippewa Square is where Forrest Gump sat on a bench and proclaimed that life is like a box of chocolates! Somewhat busy with not much space for a ceremony, we wouldn't recommend Chippewa Square for your wedding or elopement. 

Columbia Square

Located on Habersham Street between York Street and State Street.

Columbia Square is one of three squares in Savannah that boats a fountain, this square is very beautiful location for wedding photos! It's also great for elopements, quiet and has easy parking nearby.

Crawford Square

Located on Houston Street between Hull Street & Perry Street.

Crawford Square is home to several children's parks. While it's a great place to take the kids, we wouldn't recommend it for your Savannah wedding. 

Elbert Square

Located on Montgomery Street between Hull Street & Perry Street.

Ellis Square 

Nestled in the heart of City Market, Ellis Square is extremely busy and we wouldn't recommend it for your Savannah wedding.

Forsyth Park  

Located on Bull Street between Gaston Street and Park Ave.

From the cascading trees, iconic fountain and southern charm, Forsyth Park is the epitome of a classic Savannah wedding! Booking the Forsyth Park is an achievement in itself, it can be booked exactly one year ahead of the date and there is a line of wedding planners outside the booking office at 6am trying to secure the date for the next year. The park is exceptionally ideal for elopements, (because you don't have to worry about booking these ahead of time!) however if a wedding is being performed then it is not possible, this means weekdays, early mornings, late evenings are the best bet. 

It's important to note, guests may not throw rice or confetti and alcohol is not permitted. You wedding planning team will typically provide the required security (the area is cordoned off for you) and more. The park is withing walking distance to several hotels and inns including The Mansion on Forsyth Park, Forsyth Park Inn and the Catherine Ward House Inn.

Franklin Square 

Located on Montgomery Street between Bryan Street and Congress Street.

Franklin Square is another high traffic square we wouldn't recommend for your Savannah wedding.

Greene Square

Located on Houston Street between York Street and State Street.

Greene Square is a beautiful hidden treasure in downtown Savannah. Not as popular as other squares, it's a quite square that boasts large grassy areas with charming old building surrounding the exterior. Easy parking along the perimeter, Greene Square would be a lovely location for you Savannah wedding!

Johnson Square

Located on Bull Street between Bryan Street and Congress Street.

Although Johnson Square is one of Savannah's busiest, it's become popular for weddings because of it's proximity to hotels, restaurants and Savannah River Street. It is the most centrally located square in Savannah and is close to several parking garages.

Lafayette Square

Located on Abercorn Street between Harris Street and Charlton Street.

With St. John the Baptist Cathedral glistening in the background, Lafayette square boasts a charming fountain and captivating landscape making it perfectly suited for elopements and/or portraits.

Liberty Square

Located on Montgomery Street between State Street and York Street.

Liberty Square honors the “Sons of Liberty,” and provided ample grass for elopements and small weddings. 

Madison Square

Located on Bull Street between Harris Street and Charlton Street.

Madison Square is relatively quite, showcases beautiful landscapes and a grand statue making it ideal for small elopements. Parking is fairly easy and building surround the perimeter. 

Monterey Square

Located on Bull Street between Taylor Street & Gordon Street.

Located at the edge of Savannah's historic district, Monterey Square is very quiet, divides into nine sections and is home to a historic column column found at the middle of the square.  The square is especially popular for engagement photos and wedding portraits.

Oglethorpe Square

Located on Abercorn Street between State Street and York Street.

Oglethorpe Square can be busy but because it's mostly trees and grass it's a lovely location for a large Savannah wedding. Parking can be difficult, so we would recommend setting up transportation like Old Savannah Tours or a carriage ride for you and your guests. 

Orleans Square

Located on Barnard Street between Hull Street and Perry Street.

Orleans Square is the third and final square to feature a fountain. The square is suprisingly popular, so we recommend you book in advance. The park is quiet, with light traffic, surrounded on three sides by period housing and the Civic Center on the fourth side. There is abundant parking available on surrounding streets and nearby lots.

Pulaski Square

Located on Barnard Street between Harris Street and Charlton Street.

Pulaski Square is a small, quiet square with a large hedge along one side. Large oaks encompass the square, which is comprised of mostly grass and surrounded by mid nineteenth century homes. Reasonably good parking is available nearby making it perfect location for an elopement or small Savannah wedding.

Reynolds Square

Located on Abercorn Street between Bryan Street and Congress Street.

Close to parking garages, major hotels, and restaurants, Reynolds Square is centrally located and features the Olde Pink House on one side. If you're interested in hosting a reception at the Olde Pink House or Vic's on the River, this is the ideal square for you! The Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn are just a short walk from the square and the perfect place for guests to stay. Couples use this location often, so remember to book in advance. 

Telfair Square

Located on Barnard Street between State Street and York Street.

Adjacent to the Telfair Museum, Telfair Square boasts a large grassy area and picturesque trees making it an excellent location for portraits and weddings.

Troup Square   

Located on Habersham Street between Harris Street and Charlton Street.

Troup Square showcases a modern sculpture in a quiet park of town making it an superb location for elopement and portraits. 

Warren Square   

Located on Habersham Street between Bryan Street & Congress Street.

Warren Square is one of the quietest in downtown Savannah and is comprised of almost all grass. An easy walk from popular hotels and restaurants, it's a quintessential location for your Savannah wedding  The buildings surrounding the square are of mixed periods, the trees offer good shade in the summer and nearby parking garages offer adequate parking.

Washington Square

Located on Houston St. between Bryan Street & Congress Street.

With its larger green grassy area, period buildings and easy parking nearby, Washington Square is perfect for weddings and events. There are plenty of reception locations and hotels nearby, but our favorite is Beloved Vendor The Brice - A Kimpton Hotel. As with all Savannah squares permitting and security is required.

Whitfield Square

Located on Habersham Street between Taylor Street and Gordon Street.

Whitfield Square features a stunning gazebo that was made specifically for weddings and elopements! It’s surrounded by charm and has plenty of room to host a large wedding. Street parking is also easily available!

Wright Square  

Located on Bull Street between State Street and York Street.

Because of heavy foot traffic and difficult parking, we don't recommend using Wright Square for your Savannah wedding or elopement.
