Lowcountry Couple | Brad & Leslie

The couple: Brad & Leslie

How many years have you been married? We have been married for a glorious and exciting year and a half.

Where do you live?  We just bought our first house, a cute little craftsman, in Savannah, Georgia

Do you have kids? Two crazy brindle babes: our dog Zephyr and cat Zoey

Tell us a little about yourselves. We love to travel, be on the water, build stuff and have fun! Brad is a bartender at Local11ten where you can find him 5 nights a week. Leslie works in the corporate office of Local’s parent company, Daniel Reed Hospitality. When we are not working our real jobs, we are focused on our side business Relish, which we started last year. A slow, challenging process but we enjoy having something that we work on together.

Tell us your love story. We met while working together at Local11ten. Since we were both seeing other people at the time, we never really talked for the first few months he worked there. We both became unhappy in our relationships and they ended just after the New Year. We became quick friends and had a great connection, tons of laughs and just were able to be ourselves for the first time in a long time. For the first month that was all it was and then just like that, we were joined at the hip. After that, everything happened pretty fast, we moved in together 5 months later, went on some adventures and got engaged 5 months after that in November.

How did you prepare for marriage? We really just enjoyed each other. We lived our regular life and traveled when we could. We made each other very happy in that process which gave us the confidence for marriage. We fight well, live happily and respect and love each other.

Describe your wedding day in one sentence. The most amazing and humbling experience in which we realized how many people genuinely care for us and our happiness.

What is your favorite thing about being married? Waking up next to your best friend and knowing you get to do that forever.

What are your favorite pieces from your registry? We are not really crystal and china people and didn’t want to register for a lot of the typical wedding stuff so we went for a Honeyfund, which proved to be AMAZING! We honeymooned for 6 weeks in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia and had countless breathtaking experiences thanks entirely to the generosity of our family and friends. One of our favorite memories was spending a magical day with elephants in Luang Prabang, Laos. Couldn’t forget it if we tried.

How do you celebrate your love? Holding hands, doing things together, appreciating the small moments, LAUGHTER… And champagne.

How do you make your house a home? We love to build furniture together. Brad is a great carpenter and gets better with each piece he makes. Almost every room in our home has something that we have designed and built together. It is really fun to look at each piece and remember where we were in that stage of our relationship and how much hard work went in to enhancing our home.

Tell us how you balance career and marriage. We run on opposite schedules most days. he works nights so when she gets home, he is usually already off to work. We usually have 2 nights together where we end up with friends one night and the other is just us. On the weekends, we are either building or making something for our small side business or drinking and having fun.

Tell us how you’ve overcome challenges in your marriage. For the most part, we have been lucky in that we have seen challenges coming. We have had time to communicate our feelings before these things come up and have been able to make a plan for how to handle different scenarios. We have dealt with our issues from serious money problems and crazy family to feeling lonely or scared in the same way. We talk, usually over a pitcher of Tequila Towns finest, and make a plan. By the end, we have worked out the problem and had a pretty great time doing it!

Tell us one way you love on and serve your spouse. Little surprises when they aren’t expecting it.
